USCC’s 18th Annual Conference and Trade Show Bigger and Better Than Ever
February 9, 2010 — The USCC 18th Annual Conference and Trade Show was another huge success. More than 900 composting and organics recycling professionals and more than 100 exhibitors attended the US Composting Council’s 18th Annual Conference and Trade Show, January 24-27 in Orlando, FL. Hosted by 48 sponsors, the Annual Conference attracted a national and international audience, with representatives from nearly every state and 18 countries.
In addition to three days of training courses and educational and technical sessions, the conference also featured a record number of Equipment Demonstrations by many of the leading equipment manufacturers and suppliers in the industry. Grinding and shredding equipment from Peterson, Bandit Industries, Morbark, Doppstadt, Komptech, Continental Biomass Industries, Hammel, and Vermeer Corporation. Among this year’s conference highlights were awards presented for outstanding achievements in the composting industry:
• Hi Kellogg Award for Outstanding Service to the Composting In dustry, awarded to William Ward Townshend, South Dade Soil & Water Conservation District, FL
• Rufus Chaney Award for Research Excellence, awarded to Greg Evanylo, Virginia Tech, VA
• Composter of the Year, awarded to Bill Camarillo, Tom Fry, Community Recycling & Resource Recovery, Inc.

• The H. Clark Gregory Award to Promote Grassroots Efforts in Composting, awarded to Perry Plumart, US House of Representatives, “Green the Capitol”, Washington, DC
• Clean Water Award, awarded to Neil Weinstein, The Low Impact Development Center, Inc., MD
Next year’s US Composting Council’s Annual Conference & Trade Show is scheduled for January 23-26, at the Hyatt Regency Santa Clara, Santa Clara, California.
