US Composting Council and PLAN Launch Partnership to Build Campus Composting Resources

The Post Landfill Action Network (PLAN) and US Composting Council (USCC) are launching a partnership to provide resources in the coming year to stakeholders of composting efforts on college and university campuses, the organizations announced today.

The two groups will be working together on training resources for campus composting to be released in early fall. With PLAN’s emphasis on student-led zero waste programs and USCC’s specialty on the diversion of organics and production and use of compost, the collaboration was a natural fit. The groups have already collaborated at PLAN’s annual Students for Zero Waste Conference held in Philadelphia, PA in fall 2018, and expect to continue working together on efforts to educate the college and university community.

“USCC and PLAN both believe in the importance of waste reduction through composting, and the key role that college campuses play in achieving these goals,” said Frank Franciosi, USCC executive director. “We look forward to working with this energetic group to produce resources that will benefit student leaders, administrators, campus sustainability staff and campus host communities.”

“We are really excited to combine PLAN’s intimate knowledge of campus administration and infrastructure with USCC’s deep technical know-how to make a resource that is useful and accessible to students and staff alike,” said Faye Christoforo, co-executive director of PLAN. “Organics collection is a growing trend on campuses and we are thrilled to provide the tools for campuses to be as effective as possible.”
