Compost Consumer Use (CCUP) Methods & Amounts

What is the Consumer Compost Use Program?

The Consumer Compost Use Program takes the USCC’s STA Certified Compost Program to the next level, and creates an easy-to-apply format.

The Consumer Compost Use Program clearly identifies a few types of uses that compost products are good for, and what compost test results are best for each of those uses. Test results from within the last one to three months are available from STA Certified Compost manufacturers upon request. Those compost uses are:

  • Trees & Shrubs
  • Flower & Vegetable Gardens
  • Lawns

Each compost use classification is represented by easily interpreted icons that reflect the compost’s use (or uses). Only compost producers in the STA Certified Compost program can use these symbols, as they are tied to the required compost testing. You will find these icons on participating STA Certified Compost manufacturers’ literature, websites and packaging, and as rack cards with more information about them in garden centers and nurseries.
